Greetings from the Collingwood Thundersnow Classic tournament committee.
Unfortunately, I have to share some very disappointing news. We have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Competitive tournament in September 2026. This decision was not made lightly, nor was it anything that our committee anticipated.
If you've been to one of our tournaments in the past, you know we pride ourselves on organization and a well-run hockey event. However, we have encountered a major challenge with available accommodations in our area. Our tournament committee arranged for hotel blocks at a number of our local hotel/motel/resort partners in the area for our tournament, but there is also a minor hockey tournament occurring in a neighbouring community the same weekend and we believe that there may have been errors in assigning the correct blocks to the correct tournament.
We are not laying any blame here as our hotel partners in the area have been staunch supporters of our tournament in the past and we feel that this is just a simple case of miscommunication. Unfortunately, the lack of available accommodation options to successfully run our tournament has forced us to make the very difficult decision to cancel our event for September 2026.
All teams will receive a full refund within the next week. Credit cards will be refunded to the cardholder that made payment and e-transfers will be refunded to the email address of the contact person on the tournament registration.
I would like to sincerely apologize to you and your team for this occurrence. I know how difficult it is to secure a spot in tournaments these days and now we are leaving a hole in your tournament plans for the 2026-2027 season. I do hope that your team will be able to compete in an alternative tournament and please know that we are beyond disappointed that we had to make this decision.
I know that this situation is likely to leave a black mark on the Collingwood Thundersnow Classic but we do hope that you will consider our tournament in the future. We will be making significant changes to our approach to secure accommodations for next year. We have had 3 previous tournaments that were filled with a wonderful weekend of girls hockey competition and we hope to be able to deliver that again next year.
